Founded in 1992 with the encouragement and blessing of Archbishop Louis W. Falk, St. Mary's Theological College has provided advanced theological training for more than two dozen men, several of whom have been ordained for ministry in the Anglican Church of America. A two-year training program for the diaconate followed by a three-and-a-half year program for the priesthood are the primary emphases of the college. While some courses require prerequisites, many are open to auditing or special students.

In 1995 the bishops of the international Traditional Anglican Communion, meeting in Victoria, British Colombia, chose the program developed at St. Mary's as the standard program of theological education for the traditional Anglican church. St. Mary's is affiliated with St. Augustine's Theological College in Charlottesville, Virginia; the two schools together have recently formed the Consortium of Anglican Theological Schools (CASTS), to promote high standards for theological education among traditional Anglicans.

The college has been authorized by the House of Bishops of the Anglican Church in America to grant two diplomas, the certificate for diaconal ministry (at the successful conclusion of a two-year course of studies) and the certificate of theological studies (a further three-and-a-half year program).

In 1998, St. Mary's Theological College acquired many books that had once belonged to the Philadelphia Divinity School before its closure.  Others have personally contributed to build a fine, and growing, collection.  St. Mary's Library is located in the back of the church building, in the undercroft.  It is available to parishioners on Sundays, and to others with study needs upon request.

The program is pleased to announce its first offerings for 2010.

Old Testament 201

First Term

The class this term will cover the Torah (Pentateuch) and the Historical Books (Former Prophets).

Second Term

The Fall term will cover the Writings and the Prophetic Books, integrating them into the framework of the first term.

Classes begin Saturday January 9th

Classes will commence this coming Saturday, January 9, 2010, at 10am, PST. Class times on the second Saturday of each month (through June) will be 10am, 1pm, & 2:30pm. This allows for Mattins & Noon Mass at St Mary of the Angels. (Those attending the Mass are encouraged to bring a sack lunch.) A workshop on using WebEx will be featured on the first day.

Class Material

Fr Jonathan Bar-On will present some fascinating material by way of introduction. The text-books will be sent during the next week to those who sign up. Reading assignments are to be finished before the next class day, February 13. Nine textbooks will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Afterwards, participants will have to get them from another source. (The textbook has an interactive CD included.)

Location

One locus for live participation in the class will be the Choir Room at St Mary of the Angels. It will be possible to establish other 'community sites' if there is need & opportunity. This will allow those without personal computers to participate. (Please make certain such potential students receive notice and this Registration Form.)

On-Line via WebEx

The class will be accessible on line, through WebEx. Details will be sent to all who register. Class will also be recorded so that it can be reviewed later, without the live interaction, of course.  Special provision may be made for those on Ordination Track.  Please do not hesitate to ask, if there is need. Arrangements for paying the registration by installments can also be made.

Registration Information

Registrants should immediately copy the pages required for registration, fill them out, and fax them at once to St Mary of the Angels. Payment should be sent by mail, or hand delivery in Hollywood (Find more information and directions here).

The Registration Form can be downloaded here.

Please pray God's blessing upon this endeavor.

In Christ,
Fr Christopher P. Kelley +
